Big Shoals began staking their claim as a serious band in Gainesville, FL, playing their own mixture of rock/americana in 2012. They released their debut album, "Still Go On" in April of 2014 to great reviews and went on to tour and play shows with notable acts like Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers, James McMurtry, Joe Pug, John Moreland, Aaron Lee Tasjan and Cory Branan, among many others, around the Southeast. In July of 2016 they released their sophomore album, "HARD LESSONS", which was cited as one of the "50 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2016" by The Revue. Upon release, "HARD LESSONS" received high praise in the critical world, with NO DEPRESSION stating, "Big Shoals should be in equal plane with the Isbells and Stapletons, it’s Americana’s Americana. " "They are the antithesis of all the current Americana bullshit." Since their last record release, lead man and songwriter Lance Howell, has traveled around the country with his family and recently moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to settle down again. With a new town and a new start, Lance is forging ahead with his songs, his family and the vision he has for Big Shoals and it's future. One thing remains true regardless of location, Big Shoals perseveres in any capacity, much like the characters in the songs and the records they create.
